Shoes

O.K., most of you know I'm really not a girly-girl, so I don't have any sort of unusual affinity for shoes...but, I thought it was kind of a cute idea, so I did it anyways. The quiz, What Kind of Shoe Are You?

What was I? Everybody is going to be totally shocked here...everybody that knows me, that is...

You Are Cowboy Boots

This doesn't mean you're country, just funky.

You've got a ton of attitude and confidence.

You're unique, expressive, and even a little bit wacky.

You wear whatever you feel like รข€“ and you have your own sense of style.

You are straight shooting and honest. You tell people how it is.

Low maintenance and free wheeling, you're always up for an adventure.

You should live: Where you can at least get to wide open spaces

You should work: In a job that allows you to take change

Like I said, everybody's really surprised. Or not. Funny that they pinned it down so well -- I mean, how did they know that that's pretty much all I wear??!!!

Although, I am going through a bit of a metamorphosis here, going back to what I originally was. Living in Urban USA like we do, I'm starting to go back to tennis shoes more and more, if for no other reason than to make sure my good boots don't get worn out on all that pavement. All the same, I think it's pretty neat that they actually said that I am what I am!

Oh, and by the way, forget that part where it says, That doesn't mean you're country, just funky... Just ignore that phrase. Obviously they didn't get it quite right on the money.

And maybe that last phrase was supposed to say '...take charge'???

Political Post

I know, I know, I don't usually do political stuff on my blog. But I've got a few things for you that I just can't resist posting. Here we go:

Old Grasshopper Story

OLD VERSION: The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed. The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself!

MODERN VERSION:

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.

CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food. America is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Obama says "We will change this". Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper, and everybody cries when they sing, 'It's Not Easy Being Green.'

Jesse Jackson stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house where the news stations film the group singing, 'We shall overcome.' Jesse then has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper's sake.

Nancy Pelosi & John Kerry exclaim in an interview with Larry King that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share.

Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic Equity & Anti-Grasshopper Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer. The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the government.

Hillary gets her old law firm to represent the grasshopper in a defamation suit against the ant, and the case is tried before a panel of federal judges that Bill Clinton appointed from a list of single-parent welfare recipients. The ant loses the case.

The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he is in, which just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles around him because he doesn't maintain it. The ant has disappeared in the snow. The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the once peaceful neighborhood.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be careful how you vote in 2008!

How true, how true... And now a picture:

Let's Play a Little Game...

In summer camp last year, we played a game where campers were shown a picture that was actually a small part of another picture, and a videographer taped us giving our guesses as to what the picture was of.

I figured it would be a fun thing to do on the blogosphere. I have prepared 5 pictures, each of which is a small part of a larger picture, for y'all to guess what they are. Leave me a comment with your guesses if you want to play along. In a few days I will post the whole pictures so that you can see what they really were.

So, shall we play?

Happy guessing!

The Age-Old War Between...

Dogs...
And Cats...

Even Puppies...

And Kittens...

But particularly this Dog...

And this Cat...

I'm not completely sure when it first started, unless it sprouted from the instinct of the wild ones to avoid and/or fight each other, but it seems like no cat and no dog can get along -- with a few notable exceptions.

Let's do a slight study of the matter. Do you see anything unusual about this lovely rolltop desk?

Well, let's zoom in a little...

And a little more...

And a little more...

And maybe just a little more...

See how sweet she is? How could she hate a face like this one? How could anybody hate a face like this one?

"Kitty? Did I see a kitty? I think I did..."

"Oh...sorry."

Introducing...

Warning: Lots of pictures to follow

Skeeter!

Yes, this sweetheart is ours! She started out as this:
Skeet...she is the one on the upper left.

And then she grew a little, and became like this:

She's right in the front

Note: The video is long, so you may not wish to watch the entire thing, but the first few moments are too funny.

Here are her parents:
Skeet's dad, Zachary
Skeeter with her mom, Buffy.

And then...we brought her home:

And she settled right in:

The newest member of our family, Skeeter, also called Skeet, joined us yesterday afternoon. She cried half the way home and slept the other half, but once we arrived she lost no time and started to explore the moment her carrier was opened. She settled right in in all respects...except for Casey.
Poor Casey -- she only wants to make friends with Skeet. Skeeter, however, the little bugger, has decided that poor Casey is a huge horrible monster, and has already drawn blood on Casey's nose! Casey tries hard to be friendly and unthreatening, but I think Skeet is intimidated by the fact that Casey's muzzle is almost as big as Skeeter's whole body! I'm sure though that in time they will become more comfortable with each other.
Welcome, Skeeter!

Not Yet

Just letting everybody know what's going on here. I've been sick the last week (no fun!), so I haven't been on here...and we're going out of town this weekend (Mrs. Mishel, hope to see you Sunday!)...so it will probably be a few more days before I can do a coherent post. :-)

As for right now, I have tons of stuff to tell y'all about, but it will have to wait for another time, because right now I have too much to do. Several things are already checked off my list, but I haven't done a bit of packing yet and we're leaving tomorrow morning, hopefully by 8:00... So, I will just have to wait a few days and tell you everything then! :)
